Our Process

Horse Manure, Coffee Grounds & Worms
Sustainability in Action
At the heart of our approach lies a simple but powerful idea: we embrace the potential of discarded resources to drive renewal. Specifically, we turn to the humble but mighty combination of horse manure and coffee grounds, both of which we compost right here on our premises.
Once the horse manure has undergone the full composting process, it becomes a delectable meal for our industrious worms. Each of our worm beds eagerly devours approximately 350 pounds of this nourishing blend—composted horse manure and coffee grounds—every two weeks. Yet, we keep a watchful eye on our wormy friends, adjusting their dining schedule as needed. You see, these wriggly creatures have their own preferences, which can shift with the seasons. Their appetites wax and wane with changes in temperature and humidity.
Our goal is to maintain an ideal worm population density, roughly one pound of worms per square foot of their comfy substrate or bedding. We favor European Nightcrawlers for their versatility, even though they reproduce at a slightly slower pace (with eggs hatching every 29 days) compared to the regular red wrigglers (whose eggs hatch every 21 days). The European Nightcrawlers are a dual-purpose wonder, serving both as fantastic fishing bait and essential composters. Remarkably, their baby worms mature in just 90 days, and under the right conditions, their numbers double every 90 days.”
Sustainability is our mission, and we’re achieving it incrementally, thanks to our worms and composted resources.

Why invest in healthy soil?
Using amended topsoil, organic compost, castings and worms in your garden will significantly improve soil fertility, enhance plant growth, and promote a thriving ecosystem underground resulting in higher nutrition in your food!
Amended topsoil typically contains organic matter and essential nutrients, enriching the soil and providing a nourishing environment for plants to thrive, ensuring they have the resources they need to grow and develop.
Worms play a vital role in improving soil structure through their burrowing and casting activities, creating channels that allow better water infiltration, root penetration, and aeration, which in turn supports healthier plant growth.
The presence of beneficial microorganisms and nutrients in castings enhances the overall health of plants, making them more resistant to diseases and pests while also promoting stronger root systems.
Amended topsoil and worm castings release nutrients gradually, making them more available to plants over time, ensuring a steady supply of essential elements for optimal growth and development.
Worms and castings contribute to a diverse and balanced underground ecosystem, fostering beneficial interactions between soil organisms, which can lead to improved soil health and, consequently, more productive gardens.
Amended topsoil can improve the water-holding capacity of your soil, reducing the risk of drought stress for your plants and allowing them to access moisture more effectively.
Incorporating these elements into your gardening practices aligns with sustainable and eco-friendly principles, as it reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides while promoting a more natural and self-sustaining ecosystem.
With enriched soil, strong root systems, and improved nutrient availability, your plants are better equipped to withstand adverse environmental conditions, resulting in more reliable and robust harvests.
